Mets’ Francisco Lindor trade deadline plan should anger fans amid horrible stretch

Francisco Lindor returned for the New York Mets, an exciting time for an organization that could use all the help it can get. I understand that Lindor has struggled a tad on the field earlier in the season, but I think the injury had something to do with it. I'm never going to doubt a guy who's been one of the better players in Major League Baseball for over a decade.

However, I am going to question why the Mets continue to think that, just because Lindor is back, things are going to magically change. Recently, speaking to reporters, David Stearns kept bringing that up, and I just absolutely can't agree with that.

“I think we’re at the point of the season where there’s a sense of urgency now,” Stearns said, per ESPN.

“That urgency isn’t a week or two. We have a period of time here before we have to make any finite decisions about a trade deadline strategy, or anything like that. We’re also at a period of time where we have to start playing better baseball and win more games consistently. Francisco is a big part of that. We think he can help us. So I think it’s both, yeah, we got a sense of urgency throughout our team right now. We also can’t put everything on Francisco to come back at a time when he hasn’t been playing baseball very much and expect him to put us on his back.”

Look, I'm not saying that he shouldn't be excited to have his superstar shortstop back, and of course, Lindor can impact the team at a very high level.

There's a reason why he's done what he's done throughout a lot of his career, but I also think it's important to recognize that even when he's been on the field this year, they might have been one of the worst teams in baseball.

There are a lot of problems in New York right now, and unfortunately, one player isn't going to change that, no matter how much Stearns might think it could.
