Every once in a while, a movie comes along that just feels special. It's the kind of movie that after finishing it, you immediately know people will be talking about it for years.

Well, over on Reddit, movie lovers are sharing the newer films they consider to be "modern classics." From visually stunning masterpieces to emotional gut punches, these are the movies people believe will stand the ultimate test of time:

1. "Ex Machina became one of my all-time favourite movies as soon as I watched it."

3. "For me, Poor Things is one that feels special. The cinematography is absolutely stunning and refreshing, Mark Ruffalo is hilariously unhinged, Emma Stone delivers an incredible performance, and the costumes/production design is out of here. I've seen it multiple times and it still impresses me every watch."

5. "The Fall Guy was a perfect fun movie and 20 years ago would have been on USA, AMC, and FX on repeat almost every weekend. It's right up there in the genre of popcorn movies with Top Gun Maverick, Ford vs Ferrari, Nobody, Bullet Train, The Nice Guys, and Kingsman. Modern day versions of The Mummy, Rush Hour, Lethal Weapon, and Beverly Hills Cop.

6. "Flow. Maybe it's because I'm a cat dad, but I was extremely impressed by how well it made you emotionally invested in a movie with no words, just an animated cat and other animals trying to survive in a flooded world."

"It perfectly expresses the essence of cat."

Luci-Noir
"I watched this movie with my black cat thinking it would be a cute little flick. I sobbed for like 20 minutes after it ended, he was not impressed with my theatrics.

Such a beautiful film!"

7. "The Substance is just a really special movie, it hit my top 3 on my first watch."

8. "Bugonia became an instant classic for me, I wanted to know who the composer was, and found a reddit thread from an aspiring composer. They said the track is the sound in Jesse Plemmons characters head. Everytime it strikes big is the sound he hears of triumph; adventure, success of his mission. It is hands down great acting, secretly guided by an incredible orchestra."

9. "Dune Part 1 & 2."

Ok_Activity_7797

"Absolutely agreed, watched them in the cinema thinking that I didn't realize films could still be at the same quality and scale that Lord of the Rings was, Dune gave me hope again for the future of cinema!"

10. "Hereditary. It felt like a fresh take on horror that I hadn't really seen like it, and it has already influenced so many films that came after it with its particular brand of dread and family trauma. I haven had a horror movie shake me as hard as the last 20 minutes of Hereditary."

11. "The Banshees of Inisherin is now my favourite movie of all time. I watch it at least once a quarter."

ComplexWafer

12. "Shrek! Animated comedy for young and old. It kicked off a huge franchise, fresh and original."

Mediumtim

13. "The Spider-Verse movies. If the third lands, I'm ready to call it my favourite trilogy of all time."

bumlove

"I gotta agree here, first one felt like one of those 'things are different after this' kind of movies, and the second was visually just….quite an accomplishment."

Artaxbeforehegotsad

"ABSOLUTELY. First one is 10/10, second 8/10, if the third one is 8 or above it will be an absolutely legendary trilogy."
