Nikola Jokic sends clear message regarding future with Nuggets, contract extension

Nikola Jokic has broken his silence regarding his future with the Denver Nuggets

Jokic is eligible to sign an extension with Denver this summer, but he plans to wait until next offseason to do so for financial reasons.

Jokic is currently eligible to sign a four-year $278 million max extension with the Nuggets. If he waits until next summer he'll become eligible to sign a five-year $359.5 million contract as a free agent. That would be the largest contract in NBA history, per ESPN

“My idea is to stay with the Nuggets. I’ll probably sign next year. The reason for that is strictly business,” Jokic said in Serbian following Serbia's a 92-81 win against Bosnia in the FIBA World Cup 2027 European qualifiers.

“My desire is to play with Nuggets for the rest of my career. It’s up to them whether they’ll offer me that or not."
