Paige Bueckers just did something no WNBA guard has done in 16 years

Paige Bueckers is doing more than putting up impressive numbers for the Dallas Wings. After another standout performance, the rookie guard is beginning to earn serious MVP consideration while helping transform one of the league's biggest surprises this season.

Paige Bueckers keeps building her WNBA MVP case

Paige Bueckers delivered her best scoring performance of the season Friday, finishing with 34 points, six rebounds, and six assists as the Wings defeated the Toronto Tempo 108-95 in Montreal. The victory extended Dallas' winning streak to four games, its longest stretch of the season.

The performance also added another milestone to Bueckers' growing résumé. She became the fastest guard since 1999 to reach 450 points and 100 assists in a season, further highlighting the all-around impact she has had on Dallas' turnaround.

That momentum has fueled a larger conversation around the league. Veteran broadcaster Cindy Brunson believes Bueckers has the talent to eventually break a long-standing trend, writing on X, "A guard in the @WNBA hasn't won an MVP since DT in 2009. I could easily see Paige ending that drought once A'ja is done rewriting the record books."

The timing of that discussion is hardly surprising. Over her last five games, Bueckers has averaged 24 points, five rebounds, and six assists while shooting 54 percent from the field. Those numbers have helped lift Dallas to fourth place in the standings, despite many expecting the Wings to struggle at the start of the season.

Friday's game also became part of WNBA history for another reason. A crowd of 20,996 filled Montreal's Bell Center for the city's first regular-season WNBA game, setting a new league attendance record for a regular-season contest. Toronto guard Marina Mabrey matched Bueckers with 34 points, but Dallas controlled the game late to secure another important victory.

The season still has plenty of basketball remaining, and A'ja Wilson continues to lead the MVP race. Still, if Dallas keeps winning behind Bueckers' production, the conversation surrounding the Wings star is likely to become much louder.
