People Are Just Now Discovering Drake Starred In This Hockey Romance Movie, And Yes, It's Wayyyy Better Than "Off Campus"

If you've been watching Off Campus lately, then you might've noticed that hockey romances are having a major moment right now. Between Heated Rivalry, Finding Her Edge, and Icebreaker, fans can't seem to get enough of love stories on the ice. But long before any of those hit our screens, and thanks to a viral Instagram post, people have recently been rediscovering a much older entry into the genre: Breakaway.

Released in 2011, the Indo-Canadian sports movie follows the story of a young Sikh hockey player trying to balance family expectations, cultural identity, and his dreams of playing hockey.

Set in the Ontario city of Brampton, Breakaway explored the realities of being a second-generation immigrant in a multicultural Canada.

And honestly, the cast is kind of unbelievable. The film featured huge names like Ludacris, Rob Lowe and Russell Peters, alongside stars Vinay Virmani, Anupam Kher, and Camilla Belle!

But the most surprising cast member of all is Drake. Yes, the Drake. The Toronto rapper made a brief appearance in the film, performing his hit song "Over" after the main character, Rajvinder, asks him to surprise his cousin. Looking back, his cameo was especially wild considering this was near the beginning of his rise to global fame!

While Off Campus and Breakaway tell very different stories, the conversations around hockey romances have seemed to grow more and more since its release. Some could say...Breakaway walked so Off Campus could run?

What do you think? Was Breakaway ahead of its time, or are the comparisons completely off? Let us know in the comments!
