Phillies make big Kyle Schwarber Home Run Derby announcement

The Philadelphia Phillies fanbase is already buzzing with the home ballpark, Citizens Bank Park, hosting the 2026 MLB All-Star Game.

Brandon Marsh is starting in the outfield, Jhoan Duran might close the game, and Cristopher Sanchez and Jesus Luzardo are likely to pitch. But it's not just the All-Star Game, but the Home Run Derby that Phillies fans can be excited about.

Bryce Harper already confirmed his participation, but what about the MLB HR leader, Kyle Schwarber? Well, the Phillies announced that the beloved DH will be participating in the Derby, joining Harper for the hometown Derby in Philadelphia.

Kyle Schwarber to participate in Home Run Derby alongside Bryce Harper

"There will be Schwarbombs bursting in air," the Phillies announced with Schwarber's participation in the Home Run Derby.

Schwarber, who has 32 home runs this season, will be joining Harper in the Home Run Derby at Citizens Bank Park on Monday, July 13.

Phillies fans in attendance should see many Schwarbombs and Harper home runs on Monday night, as the Phillies' slugging duo joins the Home Run Derby together on back-to-back days.

This is a very exciting announcement, and one that isn't a huge surprise. But, like how Harper was uncertain due to needing to find a pitcher, Schwarber wasn't a lock due to some back issues potentially keeping him out of the competition.

But it's now been confirmed that Schwarber will participate in the Derby, representing the hometown Phillies alongside Harper for the hometown team.

They both participated in the Derby back in 2018 in Washington, and both made it to the finals. It would be very cool if both made it back to the finals this year, but at the very least, Phillies fans now have a better chance of seeing one of their stars make the finals.

Harper and Schwarber compete against Junior Caminero of the Tampa Bay Rays, Jac Caglianone of the Kansas City Royals, Willson Contreras of the Boston Red Sox, Jordan Walker of the St. Louis Cardinals, and Ben Rice of the New York Yankees.

There's one last spot open, and while Brandon Marsh could, in theory, join the Derby, it's likely going to be some other National League slugger to have four AL and four NL representatives.
