Raiders linked in stunning trade rumor to Vikings' Justin Jefferson

It's a rumor that emerged from absolutely nowhere, and it's hard to know if there's much truth to it.

But because of the scale it's worth noting: The Las Vegas Raiders have been linked to Minnesota Vikings wide receiver superstar Justin Jefferson, in what would be a blockbuster trade possibility that would shock the NFL.

The report itself comes from Hondo Carpenter, who covers the Raiders for On SI. This is what he said this week:

"I think you wait and let that Justin Jefferson thing pan out a little bit. Nothing's imminent. I'm not saying anything is imminent. I just know that there's a potential that he may want to move on and he had his best play with Klint Kubiak. I think and may have reason to believe that he would be amicable if he were to be moved to be reunited... with Klint Kubiak."

Kubiak was most recently the offensive coordinator with the Seattle Seahawks en route to the Super Bowl, and he was hired this offseason as the Raiders head coach.

Jefferson previously got to work with Kubiak in Minnesota.

On paper, it's fair to think that if Jefferson ever looked to move on from Minnesota, he'd cast his eyes toward an offensive mind he already knows.

The Raiders also could have the appeal in the near future of promising film from their No. 1 overall pick, QB Fernando Mendoza.

Jefferson is coming off the biggest struggle of his career as J.J. McCarthy, Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer struggled to get him the football consistently.

The Vikings brought in Kyler Murray this offseason in hopes of helping matters, but it remains to be seen how much improvement that will bring the offense.

If it's another bumpy season for Jefferson, maybe he looks for a way out.

For now, it'd be surprising to see a trade materialize in short order. Even the report acknowledges that "nothing is imminent."

It's still a fascinating one, because it would be a huge, headline-grabbing trade if it ever happened.
