Raptors' Allen Graves making a statement at NBA Summer League

57 minutes ago 1

On paper, there were reasons for people to doubt Allen Graves.

The Toronto Raptors' first-round pick wasn't a starter in college, and he played at Santa Clara, not exactly known as a high-major powerhouse.

But underneath the hood, it was clear Graves might be special.

And so far, he has been at NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

He's shooting above the famed 50/40/90 splits while averaging more than two steals a game. Pretty much everything Graves does on the floor is positive:

The front office absolutely cooked by taking Allen Graves at 19.

He is literally a cheat code through 3 summer league games: 14.7 PTS, 7.0 REB, and an insane 51/43/100 shooting split. He’s already a +30 when he’s on the floor and playing passing lanes like crazy (2.7 STL). pic.twitter.com/kAXMC1WqbW

Graves also has the potential to have quite the mentor this season.

As long as the Kawhi Leonard trade goes through, Graves will get to watch a former San Diego State star who was drafted in the 'teens and became a superstar.

This isn't to say that Graves will become the level of player that Leonard was and still is.

It's just to say that Graves is showing all the traits that had people excited about him. It's only July, so nothing is a given, but it's a promising start.
