Rival MLB execs reveal Padres' Mason Miller trade prediction

1 hour ago 2

The San Diego Padres are not having a great 2026 season, especially recently, as they've dropped down the standings enough to the point where the Padres are linked as possible sellers.

If the Padres sell, there will be a lot of attention on Mason Miller. His name has popped up in trade rumors lately, and it's a legitimate question for A.J. Preller this season.

However, according to multiple rival MLB executives in an article from MLB.com's Mark Feinsand, the Padres are not expected to trade Miller, even if things go south between now and the deadline for the Padres.

Padres not expected to trade Mason Miller even if season falls apart

"The Consensus among the dozen or so executives we spoke with was that Preller is unlikely to trade Miller - or be a seller at all -- unless the Padres' situation gets far worse over the next three weeks," Feinsand writes.

While a trade of Miller might be a fun move for the rest of MLB, such a blockbuster trade doesn't appear likely, even if the Padres do have a terrible July.

The only chance a Miller trade happens is if July is terrible, and Preller decides to fully blow the roster up and rebuild with the long-term future in mind.

But, as one AL executive said, "It feels like he is going to do everything he can to stay in it as opposed to trying to reset."

Sure, Preller and the Padres could land a haul for Miller at the deadline, but whatever return they get, it won't be as good as the aggressive package he sent to the Athletics a year ago for Miller.

The Padres trading Miller might be something gaining traction recently with the team's struggles, but rival MLB executives don't believe such a deal is happening, as Preller will instead try to avoid selling at all costs with this expensive and aging team.
