Sophie Cunningham declares ‘today’s the day’ as new Adidas shoes fly off shelves

Sophie Cunningham’s popularity is translating into serious selling power. The Indiana Fever guard celebrated a major career milestone Friday with the release of her first player-exclusive Adidas basketball shoe. Cunningham teased the highly anticipated launch with a playful message for her followers shortly before the shoes became available.

“Today’s the day,” Cunningham wrote on X, adding a face-with-tongue emoji. “Who’s ready for the drop?”

As it turned out, plenty of shoppers were ready. The Adidas Crazy Energy “Sophie Cunningham” PE quickly sold out in most sizes on the Adidas website following its July 24 release. The shoes were listed at $110 in adult sizes, with only a limited selection remaining through Adidas and other retailers Friday morning.

That made for an impressive debut, especially because the Crazy Energy is a player-exclusive colorway rather than Cunningham’s own signature model.

Cunningham’s shoes were designed to attract attention. The Crazy Energy PE features a vivid pink upper with a gradient pattern that becomes lighter toward the heel. Cream white wraps around the ankle collar and appears on the laces, while light blue accents can be seen on the mesh side panels and Adidas branding.

Splashes of orange near the outsole complete the colorful design. Cunningham debuted the shoes on the court during the Fever’s game against the Connecticut Sun on July 22. Two days later, fans finally had the opportunity to purchase a pair of their own.

Many sizes disappeared quickly from the Adidas website. Some additional inventory remained available through retailers such as Dick’s Sporting Goods and Hibbett, although availability varied by size and location. It was not immediately clear whether Adidas planned to restock the most popular sizes.

The shoe includes a synthetic upper, textile lining, rubber outsole and Adidas’ Lightstrike cushioning. That lightweight cushioning system is designed to provide the speed and responsiveness needed for basketball.

Cunningham reaches another career milestone

The successful release represents another step forward in Cunningham’s relationship with Adidas. Cunningham began her WNBA career wearing Nike before switching to Adidas in 2022. Her presence within the company has continued to grow, including an appearance in the promotional campaign for Damian Lillard’s Adidas Dame X.

She now has a retail shoe carrying her name. The timing of the release also allowed Cunningham to generate attention during WNBA All-Star weekend in Chicago, despite not being selected for the game. With many of the league’s biggest players and sneaker companies showcasing new products, Cunningham still found a way to command a share of the spotlight.

Her profile has grown significantly since she joined the Fever before the 2025 season. Cunningham has become one of the WNBA’s most recognizable personalities because of her physical play, outspoken nature, social media presence and memorable fashion choices. Cunningham does not have a signature sneaker yet, but the immediate demand for her first player-exclusive release could give Adidas a reason to expand the partnership.

For now, Cunningham’s declaration that “today’s the day” proved to be more than a simple promotional message. It marked another important moment in her growing career away from the court.
