Spurs fan favorite suddenly drawing Celtics trade interest after Jaylen Brown deal

1 hour ago 1

After moving on from Jaylen Brown in what was one of the more shocking trades in the NBA over the past few years, it's only fair to wonder what the Boston Celtics plan to do in the short and long term.

The Celtics, who still have a pretty good roster on paper and a chance to win a championship because of how good guys like Jayson Tatum and some of their role players are, aren't in a bad spot. However, moving on from someone like Brown, at least for an aging Paul George, really doesn't make much sense, no matter how the front office spins it.

Still, reports now indicate the Celtics might not be done yet, which could have some impact on the San Antonio Spurs, with one reporter saying Keldon Johnson could be an option for the Celtics.

“But it would, indeed, have to be an upgrade, and the Celtics are thin at power forward, with Jayson Tatum and Hauser slated to play the bulk of the minutes there, even if somewhat out of position. If the Celtics aren’t concerned about that (or if they play George at the 4), a pursuit of Keldon Johnson from San Antonio, Herbert Jones from the Pels or Lu Dort from the Thunder could be an opportunity to add a relatively young piece,” Sean Deveney wrote.

Johnson is a very good player for the Spurs, and unless they plan to get the return they really want, I wouldn't move on from him at the moment.

The Spurs will have to get creative over the next few years with certain players because their roster is eventually going to be expensive, but that question doesn't really need to be answered right now, so keeping somebody like Johnson on the roster makes more sense than not.
