Truth revealed about LeBron James, Kyrie Irving returning to Cavaliers together with Mavs trade

LeBron James and Kyrie Irving essentially shared the biggest moment in Cleveland Cavaliers history.

James had The Block. Irving had The Shot. Together, they brought the NBA title to Cleveland in one frenetic final minute against the Golden State Warriors a decade ago.

Now, there's been the thought that they could join forces again.

A LeBron and Kyrie reunion with the Cavs? That'd sure be fun.

There's just one problem with that: Irving isn't a free agent, instead currently on the roster of the Dallas Mavericks.

And the Mavs don't want to trade Irving.

This is what ESPN's Vincent Goodwill reported in a new article on Friday:

"League sources said James had been angling for former teammate Irving to join him in Cleveland, but the Dallas Mavericks have had no interest in engaging the Cavaliers in a trade, and Irving is believed to be comfortable where he is."

Irving's desire is also important here, and the fact that he conceptually doesn't want to lead simply adds to the unlikely nature of such a reunion.

This news is yet another example, though, of what might be happening behind the scenes right now.

Everyone is wondering why LeBron hasn't signed anywhere in free agency yet, but there could be numerous bits of maneuvering being attempted.

For example, if the Cavs had lined up a Kyrie trade, maybe that would've made LeBron's decision for him.

The same musings have existed involving the Golden State Warriors and a trade for Anthony Davis -- another thing that seems unlikely to happen.

At this point, James may have to pick his new team based on who's already there, not who might be coming.

At least in Cleveland, it seems like it'd be LeBron with James Harden, Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen -- if that's his choice, it still has the potential to be a very good one.
