The Minnesota Twins came out of the All-Star break with a win to get to 49-49 in the regular season. Now, the Twins are tied with the Boston Red Sox for the third and final Wild Card spot.
This team has a real chance to make the postseason this year, and this chance might lead the Twins to buy, not sell, at the MLB trade deadline.
Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report is predicting that it will actually happen, as the Twins are buyers instead of sellers. But, Reuter also predicted that after buying at the deadline, the Twins will win the AL Central, making this prediction a fantastic one for Twins fans.
Twins get fun trade deadline, postseason prediction
"Minnesota Twins: Buy at the trade deadline, win AL Central," Reuter predicts. "... After opting against a full-scale rebuild during the offseason, it would not be surprising for the front office to once again put faith in a roster that might be a piece or two away from a division title push."
This prediction from Reuter is a bold one, but it might not be too far-fetched considering how well the Twins have been playing this season.
While 49-49 might not seem all that impressive, considering they've been without Byron Buxton and Ryan Jeffers, two of their best hitters, for a decent amount of time this season, and their questionable pitching depth, this has been an impressive season so far.
The Twins making the postseason is one thing, which might not be that outlandish considering how weak the AL is this season. But, Reuter is predicting the Twins win the AL Central.

How possible is that? Well, with the Twins just 3.0 games back with the second half still to go, there's plenty of time for the Twins to make up this ground. Trading for players at the deadline would certainly help.
If this prediction came true, then teams like the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies would be in a tricky spot, as Buxton, Jeffers, and Joe Ryan, their top trade targets, likely wouldn't be on the move.
The Twins buying at the deadline and winning the AL Central is a bold prediction to make. While Twins fans would love this prediction to come true, there are likely many teams around baseball hoping the opposite happens.
