Love Island has returned, and we can't wait to watch the drama unfold. Luckily, we had to chance to speak to the creative director, Mike Spencer, and ask him to confirm or deny some of our burning questions.
So, let's see what Mike confirmed or denied about life on the Island.
Some Islanders have been given secret access to phone during filming:
"DENY. Obviously, the Google Pixel is there, but no phones in the villa other than that."
The Hideaway gets cleaned in full hazmat suits after use:
"DENY – that would be going to epic proportions. It's a very clean space – to my knowledge, there hasn't had to be a specialised clean up team; the sheets are washed thoroughly, and just normal cleaning takes place."
Producers have told Islanders who to team up with:
"DENY, it's totally their decision, they're adults, they follow their heart."
If someone doesn't know who to couple up with have you spoken to them based on how you've seen them in the villa?
"I shouldn't say this, but I remember talking to Indiyah outside the villa and saying 'you really liked Dami' and she was like 'I do' and I was like 'you need to tell him', – so sometimes there are villa producers in there who they can confide in and that's very helpful."
Islanders have tried to break out of the villa:
"DENY – it's a big open space, the door is always open, no one has tried to jump over the pool, so deny."
Production has had to change the rules on smoking and vaping:
"Confirm, yeah we don't have smoking on screen, vaping can be done off screen if they vape obviously. But only one Islander can go out at a time for a vape because we want to keep all of the content on screen for you."
Casting producers are incentivised if their talent make it to the final:
"DENY – but the casting team would probably like that."
Recouplings take hours to film, sometimes after midnight:
"Sadly confirm, recouplings, by default, to make it as glossy and exciting for the viewers at home, does take forever and definitely do go past midnight. Also, waiting for the public vote makes it even later."
There's a dedicated team to oil the boys before challenges:
"DENY – that's so weird, I don't think they're always oiled, I think it may be sun cream."
Islanders have threatened to not go on the show if they were not one of the first ones in:
"Confirm – we do have people saying 'I want to go in as the opening lineup', but sometimes you have to talk to them to make them realise they're a fantastic bombshell."
Couples have secretly done bits in the day beds and no one noticed until after it's aired:
"I think probably confirm – we see a lot on the cameras, but ultimately I don't know if you're under a cover or doing something at a certain time of the day and no sees we can't know."
Islanders know when their exes are coming on but have to pretend they don't:
"Massive deny, how would you fake the shock of that? It's a deny."
It's scripted:
"Obviously i think it would be a terrible show if it was scripted, so thats a huge deny."
