Azzi Fudd enjoyed one of the best nights of her nascent professional career on Friday, surging past Bridget Carleton to become the first-ever rookie to win the three-point contest during the WNBA's All-Star Weekend.

The performance, which featured a 30-point outburst in the final round, was another notch on the belt for Fudd, the reigning No. 1 pick in the 2026 draft. After a slower start than some might have hoped, the UConn product has looked right at home in recent months, recording the fourth-most points per game (13.2) and most steals per game (1.7) of any rookie in this year's class.

You could forgive Fudd for feeling overjoyed with her performance on Friday night. And yet, when she spoke with the media after her victory, there was one name on her lips: Stephen Curry.

After the contest concluded, the Wings guard made sure to talk her talk, too. When asked whether she'd like to take part in a shootout against Curry — the greatest shooter of them all — Fudd answered affirmatively.

"Steph, if you're listening, I've been asking for a rematch since high school," Fudd said. "Maybe it's our time to figure out a time and a place."

To casuals, the call-out might have seemed impromptu — perhaps an off-shoot of Curry's high-profile clash with Sabrina Ionescu during 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend.

Before Fudd was a sharpshooter of the highest calibre in the WNBA, she was a high school phenom, plying her trade at St. John's College in Washington, D.C. Fudd had garnered serious admirers for her exploits at the high school level. In fact, prior to her sophomore season, Fudd was invited to Curry's prestigious SC30 Select Camp, becoming one of the first girls to receive such a distinction.

Already renowned for her lively jumper, Fudd challenged Curry, fresh off his third NBA championship, to a three-point shootout. She had already claimed the title of the camp's best shooter, beating all foes, girls and boys, to take home the crown.

Fudd nearly downed Curry, tallying 16 points. The Warriors legend was too tough, however, outgunning the then-15-year-old by four to hoist the proverbial trophy.

Fudd's 16 points were level with Curry's father, Dell, who turned back the clock with some impressive shot-making for a man of his age.
