Chicago and free agent Patrick Kane have agreed to a new deal that has Kane returning to Chicago 3.5 years after he left the franchise. Kane played 16 years with the Blackhawks as one of the best players in the NHL, as he was part of the core that brought three Stanley Cups to Chicago.

The Blackhawks initially traded Kane as they were entering a rebuild, but now that they are ready to try and compete again, they want Kane to help the team navigate its way back to the playoffs. The Blackhawks are giving Kane a two-year deal worth $8 million per season to bring the veteran winger back into the fold. Chicago entered the offseason with plenty of cap space, and decided to add the 37-year-old for his 20th and 21st seasons in the league.

This means that Kane could end his career in Chicago, fitting for one of the most important players in franchise history. By making $8 million next year, Kane will be the second-highest-paid player on the team.
