It hasn't even been 24 hours since AJ Dybantsa was named the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, but the former Brigham Young University star already knows where his first NBA purchase is going.
Dybantsa was drafted No. 1 by the Washington Wizards last night (June 23) in round one of the 2026 NBA Draft, and his jersey is not the only thing that is changing. He reportedly had a $4.2 million NIL valuation as a guard/wing at BYU to a four-year, $69 million NBA rookie contract per Front Office Sports. After he was drafted, he shared what would be his first purchase after receiving his contract.
"My little sister just got her permit. So if she get her license sometime she might get a car... maybe," Dybantsa told NBA champion, Iman Shumpert.

He later shared with ESPN what it meant for him to go No. 1 in the 2026 NBA Draft.
"Being the No. 1 pick meant a lot to me," said Dybantsa per ESPN. "Obviously me being No. 1 throughout all my high school career, I definitely wanted to be a staple to be No. 1 in the NBA draft and be in the same conversation with LeBron James and Cooper Flagg, Allen Iverson and guys like that."
Dybantsa joins an elite class of No. 1 Wizards picks behind John Wall (2010) and Kwame Brown (2001).
The 6-foot-9 guard is confident that in the potential of the Wizards next season and support stars such as Trae Young and NBA champion Anthony Davis on the court.
"I just know they're super hungry," Dybantsa said in a conference call with reporters after his selection. "Obviously they have a great young core, and the potential is there, obviously. So them adding me, I think I can help them a little bit. Them re-signing Trae Young, them having A.D. [Anthony Davis] and having good vets along with our young core, I think [the Wizards] can do big things."
The NBA rookie shared specifically what he plans to showcase on the court next season for the Wizards.
"I bring versatility," Dybantsa said. "I can just fit in as like an off-ball guy that can score in different ways, score in transition, score off the catch, score off the dribble. But also they challenged me when they talked to me, 'If we pick you, we want you to play defense 94 feet and pick up.' So I definitely bring that too."
The Wizards have not made the playoffs since the 2021 NBA season, and the last time they won a championship was in 1978, when they were known as the Washington Bullets.
The 2026 NBA Draft is back for the second round in Brooklyn at the Barclays Center at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
