Yankees given bad news on trade deadline target for $151M All-Star, but they should be happy

Reports indicate that the San Francisco Giants could be looking to move on from nearly everyone at this year's deadline.

Aside from Logan Webb, there seems to be a sense that San Francisco is willing to move on from any expensive player on its roster, especially at the right price.

One guy in particular who has continued to pop up in trade rumors is Matt Chapman, the former third baseman who is on a $151 million contract.

However, while Chapman has been a decent player throughout his career, he's also been very average over the past few seasons.

With a no-trade clause, there are questions about whether he's willing to waive it, with one writer even going as far as to say that the Yankees are a team that makes sense on paper to go after him.

“That's unfortunate because if Chapman is not willing to waive his no-trade clause unless it is to a west coast team, that takes away some of the team's that make the most sense on paper as trade partners like the New York Yankees o Philadelphia Phillies,” Nick San Miguel wrote.

In the sense of the Yankees needing a guy, Chapman isn't the worst player to pursue because they could use a third baseman.

However, as I've said for some other contending teams around the league, I think going after Chapman would be an absolute disaster.

This is not the same type of player we once saw, as his offensive production is now really nothing. H’s still want an elite third baseman defensively, and he deserves to be respected in that regard, but I need guys who can hit in New York, and he isn't one of them at this stage of his career.
