Yankees trade idea sends Spencer Jones, Carlos Lagrange to Rockies for 27-HR All-Star

The New York Yankees are in the middle of a losing streak, dropping seven games in a row. Now, the Yankees' top trade deadline needs feel a bit more urgent.

With a month to go until the MLB trade deadline, the Yankees should be eyeing up other teams around baseball in search of help at four key spots: reliever, starting pitcher, left side of the infield, and, arguably, most importantly, catcher.

Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report evidently agrees, as a trade idea from Miller would have the Yankees giving up Carlos Lagrange and Spencer Jones, plus one more prospect, to acquire 27-homer Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman in a blockbuster deal.

Yankees trade idea swaps Carlos Lagrange, Spencer Jones for Hunter Goodman

"The Trade: New York Yankees acquire C Hunter Goodman from Colorado Rockies for RHP Carlos Lagrange, OF Spencer Jones, and SS Kaeden Kent," Miller writes.

With this trade idea now in mind, the analysis of the trade idea presented by Miller is very interesting. It's a massive cost, but, at the end of the day, this might be a dream scenario for the Yankees.

Analysis of 3 valuable prospects Yankees ship out in trade idea

For starters, this three-player prospect package would be a massive one for the Yankees to give up. Lagrange is one of the Yankees' best prospects, as the 23-year-old right-hander is a flame-thrower with fastball speeds north of 100 mph.

Jones is a power-hitting prospect for the Yankees who's made his big league debut, and has a .687 OPS right now in the Majors with two homers. He is a little older at 25 years old, but Jones would still be a big loss in a trade.

Kent is also a fascinating prospect, as the 22-year-old 2025 draft pick has a .793 OPS this season at High-A. While he might not be as eye-catching as Lagrange or Jones, he's still a noteworthy prospect in a deal.

Who is Hunter Goodman, and how good is he?

So, what kind of player would the Yankees get by trading all of those prospects in this idea from Miller? Well, Goodman might just be the best power-hitting catcher in baseball.

This season, across 309 at-bats and putting up 2.2 bWAR overall, Goodman has 75 hits, 27 og which are home runs. He has an .853 OPS and a 119 OPS+ with a .243 batting average and .547 slugging percentage.

The Yankees are interested in power-hitting catchers, ideally ones who can hit left-handed pitching. Goodman has an .872 OPS and seven homers against lefty pitching this season in 93 at-bats.

But, with how badly the Ryan McMahon experience went, the Yankees, and like the fans as well, want to know if Goodman is a good hitter outside of Coors Field in Colorado.

Yankees fans will love to see that Goodman is actually putting up reverse splits this season. Across similar sample sizes of 162 at-bats on the road versus 147 at-bats in Colorado, Goodman is significantly better on the road.

At home in Colorado, Goodman has a .197 batting average with a .703 OPS and nine homers with 17 RBIs. But, on the road, he has a .284 batting average with a .990 OPS and 18 homers.

This trade idea would be worth it to add Goodman to Yankees' roster

There should be no concern about Goodman hitting outside of Coors Field, unlike what happened with McMahon. So now, there's even more reason to consider a trade for Goodman.

The 26-year-old catcher is under club control through 2029 on some very cheap contracts. That's why Miller's trade idea would give up Spencer Jones, Carlos Lagrange, and Kaeden Kent for Goodman.

It's a massive package, but, if the Yankees could find a way to trade for Goodman, it's the kind of move that could elevate this team to a World Series favorite out of the American League. Goodman is just that good.
