How Achraf Hakimi, 3 other Morocco players get suspended with a yellow card vs. France

1 hour ago 1

Morocco is trying to repeat its magic from four years ago.

In Qatar, they became the first African nation to advance to a World Cup semifinal. They've got a chance to do that again in 2026. This time around, they face France in a quarterfinal in Boston on Thursday.

Advancement won't be easy, and clearly that's the main concern.

But if Morocco advances, they'll be hoping to have all their players available. And entering Thursday's match, four players are in jeopardy of yellow card suspensions.

What Morocco players have a yellow card?

Four Morocco players enter the World Cup quarterfinal "on a yellow card."

The captain, Achraf Hakimi, is one of them.

Both center backs have one, too: Issa Diop and Redouane Halhal.

The midfielder Bilal El Khannouss is sitting on a yellow, too.

What happens if they get another yellow card?

They would be suspended for a potential World Cup semifinal if they pick up their second yellow card of the knockout stage in the quarterfinal.

Yellow cards reset after the group stage, but they won't reset until the semifinal now. A player can't be suspended for the final because of a yellow in the semi, but it doesn't work the same from a quarter to a semi.

Any of those four players would be picking up their second yellow card of the knockout rounds, which is enough for a one-match suspension that would keep them out of the semifinal.

Considering the stature of those four players, that'd be quite costly for Morocco.
