The Miami Heat finally pulled off the blockbuster trade to get Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Just one problem, though: This roster doesn't really make sense to maximize Giannis.
In fact, the Heat are one of five teams that Bleacher Report's Zach Buckley included in a new article about rosters in the NBA that make "absolutely no sense."
And at least with the Heat, you don't even have to really read before you realize the issue. Who can shoot?
The Heat are led by Giannis and Bam Adebayo, two strong playmakers and interior presences who are not going to stretch out a defense.
"That's an awkward fit," Buckley writes. "For all of the digital ink spilled about Adebayo's growth as an outside shooter—a theoretically crucial component of these two co-existing—he made fewer than 32 percent of his long-range looks this past season. It was a bottom-20 splash rate among the 707 times someone has launched 400-plus threes."

The starting lineup won't be filled with untapped upside, either.
"These bigs will clearly need help from Miami's perimeter players to make this work, but the Heat basically shipped out all the viable ones they had to get Giannis," Buckley writes. "At this point, they might be rolling out a starting perimeter group with Davion Mitchell (three teams in five seasons), Andrew Wiggins (a one-time All-Star) and Tim Hardaway Jr. (shooting specialist). There is one quantity-plus-quality shooter (Hardaway), and that's all he brings to the table."
For the Heat to reach their goals, they'll need lesser-known players to step up.
"Perimeter shot-creation looks even more sparse," Buckley writes. "Does Pelle Larsson have a star turn no one sees coming? Is rookie second-rounder Ryan Conwell ready for rotation minutes? And will he shoot it better than he did at Louisville (41/35/83 slash)? Coach Erik Spoelstra mines hidden gems better than anyone in the profession, but even his sorcery will be tested with what little Miami has left behind after emptying the asset collection."
The reality is that it made sense for the Heat to go after Giannis. But it makes a lot less sense to have this current roster construction.
Maybe in the next 6-to-12 months they make more moves. For now, it feels like they aren't quite at the level they need to be.
