There are a lot of things a hitter has no control over. But if a player does one thing right at the plate, it's to hit the ball hard.
Detroit Tigers prospect Bryce Rainer isn't in the major leagues yet, but he might've just had the best hard-hitting game in the Statcast era.
On Wednesday, Rainer had five hits, but that wasn't the crazy part.
All five hits came off the bat with an exit velocity of at least 109 miles per hour.
There hasn't been an MLB player in the Statcast era to do that, according to Tigers writer Chris Brown.

Shohei Ohtani has a game with four such batted balls.
Aaron Judge and Nelson Cruz also have a game apiece with four hits of that exit velocity.
According to Brown, there hasn't been a minor leaguer with more than three in a game before this.
Yeah, Rainer was clearly locked in:

— Tigers ML Report (@tigersMLreport) July 9, 2026Rainer was the No. 11 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft out of Harvard-Westlake High School, a powerhouse in California.
He's 6-foot-3 and just turned 21 on July 3.
Rainer is playing at High-A West Michigan, where he's batting .293 with a .906 OPS. He also has 11 steals in 14 attempts.
The tools are through the roof, and as long as Rainer can limit his swing-and-miss just a bit, he has a chance to be a star.
