The Chicago White Sox are having a much better season than most could've expected, as they're sitting in a postseason spot at the moment, and are very much a contender.
While they might be in decent shape at the moment, the White Sox do have a few issues with the team that might be worth exploring upgrades for at the trade deadline. Outfield is a need, but the starting rotation is their top issue to resolve.
ESPN's Jeff Passan, amid such a need for the White Sox, linked them in a trade to the Los Angeles Angels' 4.63 ERA starter Reid Detmers in what would be a "perfect fit," according to Passan.
White Sox would be 'perfect fit' for Reid Detmers trade
"But a starter with multiple years of control, like Detmers -- who would be a perfect fit, and for whom the White Sox could dip into a system soon to be infused with the No. 1 pick in the draft..." Passan writes.
Detmers might not be the best starting pitcher available for trade this year, as his 4.63 ERA leaves a bit to be desired.
But the 26-year-old starter is under contract through the 2028 season, and that mediocre ERA mark might actually help diminish how costly it would be to add Detmers in a trade.
The White Sox need to improve the starting rotation and ideally, add someone who could be around for longer than just the 2026 season.

Someone like Tarik Skubal or Freddy Peralta, pitchers who are one-year rentals, would not make as much sense for the White Sox as someone like Detmers, who's under control for longer.
The 2026 season isn't the only year this team will be competitive. In fact, since this season is a bit of a surprise, it makes more sense to add someone who will be around longer than a rental.
Detmers had a 3.77 ERA in 25 starts back in 2022, and as a reliever in 2025, he had a 3.96 ERA. He's a bit of an unknown, but for the White Sox, such a pitcher would make for a "perfect fit" at this year's trade deadline.
